# Google Drive is full — free the space without paying — Zen Inbox Cleaner

Drive is usually the fastest of the three Google storage cleanups, because Drive tells you exactly where the space is: the **Storage** view lists your files from largest to smallest. A handful of old videos, backup archives, or exported projects routinely holds more space than everything else combined — delete those few files, empty Drive's Trash, and you're done. ## 1. Sort by size, delete from the top

In Drive on the web, open **Storage** in the left-hand menu. Files appear largest-first. Work down from the top and stop when the sizes get boring — on most accounts, the meaningful space lives in the first screen or two. Old phone backups, video exports, and zip archives are the usual suspects.

## 2. Empty Drive's Trash — deletion isn't done until you do

Deleted Drive files move to Trash, where they **keep counting against your storage** until permanently cleared. Google empties Trash automatically only after 30 days; do it yourself (Trash → Empty trash) to get the space back now. This one step is the most common missing piece behind "I deleted everything and nothing changed" — that, and the meter itself, which Google says can take up to 48–72 hours to update after big deletions.

## 3. Know what counts

- **Uploaded files count** — PDFs, images, videos, archives, everything you put in.
- **Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, and Forms created since June 1, 2021 count too**, though native documents are usually tiny next to uploads. Older ones don't.

## If the account is already full-full
